- The Eastern plains garter snake, Thamnophis radix radix, is found only in Marion and Wyandot counties in Ohio, mostly in the Killdeer Plains Wildlife Area. While Eastern plains garter snakes are found throughout the Great Plains region, the closest geographic neighbors to the Killdeer Plains population is in northwestern Indiana. The Eastern plains garter snake grows to between fifteen and twenty-eight inches in length and eats salamanders, frogs, and other small animals (Om3159_001).
