Text, side A
This area, once a Fort Ancient Indian village and burial ground, was known as the Madisonville Site. Beginning in 1879, Dr. Charles Metz uncovered over 1200 Indian graves. The large quantity of tools and artifacts found indicated an industrious people. Many of the Mariemont streets were named for site features: Cachepit (granary pits), Midden Way (mounds of kitchen refuse), Flintpoint, and Hammerstone.

As a part of Remarkable Ohio's effort to insure that all historical marker numbers are accurate, we've discovered that this number has not been assigned to a marker. Our efforts to check numbers assigned during the first half century of the marker program is continuing. When the check concludes, this number may be assigned to a yet-to-be placed marker in the county.
